Did you know…

Being a student of higher education entitles you to certain educational tax benefits? Because it does!

  • Step one: Itemize your expenses! One must be extremely diligent in accounting for said expenses, so be sure to do so!
  • Step two: Maintain your tuition bills and ALL of your receipts (food, gas, school supplies, etc)! You can probably write off that new laptop you totally didn’t buy just to update your facebook and tweet…
  • Step three: Keep close track of your travel mileages, to and from your place of education! You can use the standard mileage rate to figure out the amount you can deduct.
  • Step four: File those sexy taxes of yours and make Uncle Sam proud.

Pro tip: Leave your beer budget out of this

Not sure if a particular something or other qualifies? Save the receipt anyway, and cross that bridge before April 15th of the following year. Because, if you’re anything like me, being a student generally means you are poor as shit. So any deduction, not matter how small, counts for something, AMIRITE?!
